New Jersey Weather: Snow on New Jersey's First Day of Spring?

Say it's ain't snow: The 82-degree days could feel like a distant memory this weekend if the first-day-of-spring forecasts prove to be true.

Look, it's still early. You don't need to run out and get the bread and milk. And it may turn out to be nothing, but Mother Nature could be planning a cruel trick for the first day of spring on Sunday, March 20.

Here's the current New Jersey forecast for Sunday into Monday from the National Weather Service: "A chance of snow. Mostly cloudy, with a low around 31. Chance of precipitation is 40 percent."

Indeed, forecasters are saying that snow is in the forecast for the weekend, and it could impact all of New Jersey.

Colder air will settle over the Northeast and could lead to what AccuWeather described as "wet snow" in New Jersey beginning Sunday night.

The National Weather Service on Tuesday issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for all of New Jersey, and NWS forecast maps say the snow could come Sunday night around 8 p.m., and last until Monday morning.

Most of the snow is expected in North Jersey, with a mix of snow and rain expected in Central Jersey, South Jersey and the Jersey Shore.

Temperatures will average 5-10 degrees Fahrenheit above average during most days through Friday. Highs will range from the 40s to the lower 50s in much of New England and the 50s to lower 60s in much of the the mid-Atlantic this week.

The air will be cold enough to allow wet snow to fall in New Jersey as a storm may take shape, AccuWeather Chief Meteorologist Elliot Abrams said in a news release.

"Since the storm does not exist yet, forecasts based on its strength and movement are speculative at this point," Abrams said.
