Local summer sports news

It was an active week for the local sports scene, one that saw the finale of the Ocean County Running Club’s summer series, Toms River National 8 year olds taking the field, and Todd Frazier’s first career Major League homerun.
Starting in the Major Leagues, Frazier continues to see a lot of action with the Cincinnati Reds, appearing in six of their seven games this past week. Among them were three starts, including his first start at first base.
The highlight of the week for Frazier came in their Sunday afternoon matchup with the defending World Series champion San Francisco Giants. Batting in the bottom of the fourth with the Reds out in front 3-0, Frazier lined a 1-1 pitch from Barry Zito to the left center field bleachers to bump the Reds advantage to 4-0.

However, a ground ball to third ended the team’s run, and allowed Berkeley to claim their first 8 year old District 18 championship.
