TOMS RIVER, NJ — As Toms River prepares to light its Christmas tree downtown Friday night, the holiday season got a proper kickoff Friday morning as students from the Toms River Regional School District decorated the tree in Town Hall and sang Christmas carols.

The tree is decorated with 10 ornaments from each Toms River elementary school," said Stacy Proebstle, public information officer for Toms River. The event concluded a yearlong celebration of Toms River's 250th Anniversary.

The township's Christmas tree will be lit later Friday evening; the celebration begins at 5 p.m. in the courtyard between Town Hall and the Ocean County Library.
