Take A Trip Through Broadway Musicals With 'The Drowsy Chaperone'

Toms River South's theatre guild is presenting the show beginning Thursday night.

TOMS RIVER, NJ -- Take a trip back in time to the 1920s and the world of Broadway musicals with the cast of “The Drowsy Chaperone” this weekend at Toms River High School South.

“The Drowsy Chaperone” pays tribute to musicals and the power those shows hold to transport us into a dazzling fantasy and to lift our spirits in times of sadness. The story revolves around a lonely man who greets the audience and invites them to listen to a record of the original cast recording of a fictional Broadway musical, “The Drowsy Chaperone.”

The man and the audience are immediately transported to a 1928 Broadway theater and into the world of “The Drowsy Chaperone,” a play-within-a-play crammed full of every cliché, gag and gimmick from the golden age of musicals.
