2 Killed In Route 37 Crash Near Hospital: Toms River Police

The two-vehicle crash caused one to overturn. Toms River police said the investigation is ongoing; the road is closed eastbound.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — Two people have been killed in a two-vshicle crash on Route 37 near Community Medical Center, Toms River police confirmed Monday afternoon.

The road remains closed eastbound as of 2:20 p.m. as the investigation into the cause of the crash continunes. While the westbound lanes have reopened, authorities are urging motorists to avoid the area.

Toms River Sgt. Ron Sermarini said he could confirm the deaths but did not have any information about either person.

The Asbury Park Press reported there were three people injured in the crash in addition to the two who were killed. That report said the two people who were killed were women traveling in a gray car, and that two of the injured were from that car as well. The report identified the driver of the pickup truck as male.

Photos from the scene posted to local scanner sites show at the pickup truck on its side. Sermarini said further details would be released when they become available.

The Ocean County Sheriff's Office sent a Nixle alert about 12:30 p.m. warning of the crash in the area.
