Toms River Man Accused Of Another Burglary Spree: Police

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A Toms River man was arrested Friday and charged in connection with a string of commercial burglaries in southern Ocean County, authorities said.

Alfred J. Oliveri, 61, was arrested while riding a bicycle in Toms River, after authorities realized he was the person being sought in connection with three burglaries in Little Egg Harbor and five in the Manahawkin section of Stafford Township, police said.

The Stafford and Little Egg Harbor police departments had shared photos from surveillance footage on social media in the wake of the burglaries, which began Oct. 9.

Oliveri is accused of breaking into Naples Pizzeria on Oct. 9, forcing the door open and taking cash from the register; the Pine Cone Ice Cream Shop on Route 9 on Oct. 10, forcing the back door and stealing cash, both in Little Egg Harbor. In Manahawkin, he is accused of breaking into Mama Maria's Pizzeria on Route 9, and four businesses at the 25 South Main St. shopping plaza: Jersey Mike's, Asian Gourmet, Andy's Pizzeria and an abandoned storefront, Stafford police said.

Oliveri also is accused of burglaries in Monmouth County, Little Egg police said.

He has been charge with two counts of burglary, two counts of criminal mischief, two counts of theft and two counts of possession of burglary tools and is being held in the Ocean County Jail.

He has had multiple run-ins with law enforcement, including a string of burglaries in Brick in 2015.

He was also arrested in 2015 in an attempted burglary of the Lacey Diner, police said. Lacey police recognized him from an investigation they conducted in 2004, which led to other charges of commercial burglaries.
