Toms River Man Charged After Homeowner Sees Break-In In Progress: PD

The homeowner was able to provide a description of the man to police who were responding to the burglary, police said.

BRICK, NJ — A Toms River man has been charged with burglary after he was seen breaking into an Old Toms River Road home on Wednesday by the homeowner via their surveillance video, Brick police said.

Steven A. Borriello, 35, of Toms River, has been charged with burglary, unlawful possession of a weapon, theft and criminal mischief, and he is being held at the Ocean County Jail.

The homeowner called police about noon Wednesday to report the break-in, Patrol Officer Victoria Finelli said.

As officers were responding to the break-in, an off-duty police officer reported finding a handgun on a nearby street, Finelli said.

Authorities later determined the handgun had been stolen from the home where the burglary was reported and later tossed by the burglar, Finelli said.

The homeowner provided a description of the suspect and Detective Ryan Talty, who was responding, found and arrested the suspect, later identified as Borriello, she said.
