Toms River Mom Drove Drunk With 6-Year-Old In Car, Indictment Alleges: Report

Jennifer Hyman was indicted on aggravated assault on a police officer as well as child neglect

A Toms River woman who was charged with driving drunk with her 6-year-old son in the car after an August crash has been indicted in the case, according to a report.

The Asbury Park Press reported that Jennier Hyman, 37, also was indicted on charges of child neglect, resisting arrest and aggravated assault on an officer in the Aug. 11 crash, which injured a Toms River resident.

Hyman, of Heritage Way, was northbound on Cedar Grove Road about 7:30 p.m. in a 2003 Jeep with her son as a passenger when the Jeep collided with a 2006 Toyota in the opposite lane as Hyman turned onto Bay Avenue, Toms River Police spokesman Ralph Stocco said at the time.

The 28-year-old driver of the Toyota was treated at Community Medical Center for minor injuries, Stocco said.

As she was being taken into custody, Hyman tried to kick the officer as he tried to handcuff her, Stocco said.

Sgt. Ed Mooney and Officer William Hutton charged Hyman with driving while intoxicated, resisting arrest, second-degree child neglect for driving while intoxicated and having her son in the Jeep at the time of the crash, and several motor vehicle violations, Stocco said.
