Toms River Police Hiring Class III Officer To Serve In Schools

TOMS RIVER, NJ — The Toms River Police Department is accepting applications for Class III Special Police Officer, the designation for officers who are assigned to work in the schools in Toms River.

Class III special officers are under the supervision of the Toms River Police Department and are armed. They fulfill safety and security duties in their assigned schools.

Among the minimum qualifications to be hired, candidates:

• Must be a retired officer who has previously served as a duly qualified, full-time law enforcement officer in any municipality, county, agency of this state, bi-state agency, or federal agency, and must be living in New Jersey.
• Must be retired from that agency in good standing.
• Must be less than 65 years of age for appointment.
• Must possess a valid New Jersey Driver’s License.Must pass a psychological exam.
• Must pass a medical exam and have a doctor complete a Medical Certification Form.
• Must pass a drug test pursuant to Attorney General’s Law Enforcement Drug Testing Policy.
• Must successfully pass a background investigation.Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language with reasonable proficiency and possess a high school diploma or equivalent.

Officers who have been retired for more than 3 years will be required to complete the Basic Course for Police Officer; a waiver for physical conditioning and defensive tactics will be granted.
