Toms River Woman Hospitalized After Parkway Crash In Clark

CLARK, NJ — A Toms River woman was flown to the hospital Monday night following a one-car crash on the Garden State Parkway in Clark, New Jersey State Police said.

Nicholle May, 34, of Toms River, had to be extricated from her car, a Mercedes Benz 320, after the crash that happened about 8:15 p.m., Trooper Alejandro Goez said.

May was headed south on the Parkway when she went off the right side of the road, struck multiple sign posts and slammed into a concrete overpass for the Westfield Avenue Bridge, Goez said.

It took firefighters from the Clark and Cranford fire departments about 20 minutes to extricate her from the crushed car. She was flown to University Hospital in Newark with serious injuries, Goez said.

The parkway south was closed for 40 minutes while she was rescued from the car, and the right lanes remained closed for three hours, he said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
