Toms River's Frazier Goes 1-4 in Reds' Loss

Toms River South graduate makes first career start at first base.

at first base, Monday night, going one-for-four in a 4-2 loss against the New York Mets at Great American Ballpark in Cincinnati.

The graduate's only hit came by virtue of an infield single in the bottom of the fifth inning. Frazier slapped a ground ball to Mets' shortstop Jose Reyes, and used his speed to beat out the throw,

He then advanced to second base on a single to left field by Paul Janish, and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by pitcher Mike Leake. Frazier would be stranded at third as Drew Stubbs struck out looking.

He became the first Cincinnati player to reach third at that point in the game.

Frazier saw five pitches from Mets' starting pitcher R.A. Dickey in his first at-bat in the bottom of the second inning before striking out on a knuckleball to end the inning.

He grounded out to shortstop in the bottom of the seventh inning and ended the eighth inning with a ground out to second base.

Frazier also made a nice defensive play to end the top of the ninth for the Mets, when he robbed Daniel Murphy of a base-hit with a jumping catch.

The Reds took the lead in the bottom of the sixth when Brandon Phillips' RBI double drove in Miguel Cairo.

New York answered with four runs in the top of the seventh. Carlos Beltran's sacrifice fly drove in Jose Reyes from third base. Two batters later, Murphy drove in Justin Turner and David Wright with a double to right field, and Murphy would score on a double off the bat of Jason Bay.

Stubbs drove in Janish in the bottom of the seventh for Cincinnati, and the Reds left the bases loaded in the bottom of the ninth to end the game.

Frazier was drafted by Cincinnati in 2007, where he played 63 games at Rutgers University, earning Big East player of the year honors.

His older brother, Jeff Fraizer, is currently in the Washington Nationals organization. They are both graduates of Toms River South high school.
