Toms River's Frazier Scores a Hit With Reds

Weekly summer sports wrap-up

While this past week may have been a little lighter for the local sports scene, that doesn’t mean there still wasn’t plenty to keep sports fans abuzz, highlighted by former Toms River Little League hero Todd Frazier recording his first Major League hit.

On Friday night Frazier made his second career appearance for the Cincinnati Reds, entering in the seventh inning to play third base as part of a double switch.

It didn’t take very long for Frazier to get his chance at the plate, as in the bottom half of the inning he lined a first pitch fastball off of Atlanta Braves pitcher Scott Linebrink to right field for Frazier’s first career hit.

Frazier’s success continued on Saturday afternoon as he made his first career start, batting in the seventh spot while playing third base.  Though he just went 1 for 4 in the game, the one hit was a big one.

Batting in the bottom of the seventh with the bases loaded, Frazier connected on a slider that was sent to deep left field, mere feet from being a homerun.  This cleared the bases for Frazier’s first three career RBIs. This helped contribute towards a seven-run seventh for the Reds, who downed the Braves 11-2.
