Woman Hit, Critically Injured Crossing Hooper Ave.: Toms River PD
Police said the woman was crossing near Washington Street when she was hit Wednesday afternoon.

TOMS RIVER, NJ — A woman was in critical condition Wednesday night after she was hit by a vehicle while crossing Hooper Avenue, Toms River police said.
The woman, who was not identified, sustained a head injury and was semi-conscious, and was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center in Neptune, said Jillian Messina, media relations specialist for the Toms River Police Department.
The initial investigation revealed the woman was crossing Hooper Avenue near the intersection of Washington Street about 1:15 p.m. when she was hit by an 18-year-old driver from Beachwood, who was making a left turn from Washington Street with a green arrow, Messina said.

Witnesses told police the woman was not in the crosswalk and crossed against the "Do Not Walk" signal, and was carrying an umbrella that may have obstructed her view of turning vehicles, Messina said.
The accident is under investigation by Toms River Traffic Safety Officer Adam Koeppen.

There are no summonses at this time, Messina said.
Toms River Police EMS responded along with multiple sheriff's officers, the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Crime Investigation Unit.
