Cops: Mentor Sexually Assaulted 15-Year-Old

N.Y. man held on $300,000 bail following alleged incident in Kinnelon.

A 63-year-old New York man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a minor after allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old victim he was mentoring in Kinnelon, police said Friday.

John L. Baio, of Verplanck, N.Y., was arrested in the early-morning hours on Wednesday. Verplanck is about 54 miles from Kinnelon.

Baio is being held at the Morris County Jail in lieu of $300,000 bail.

Lt. John Schwartz would not say if the victim was male or female or when the alleged incident took place, but commented that "we were alerted to the situation through another, unrelated situation."

Schwartz said Baio, a retiree, was not charged on the unrelated situation. He also said Baio was not living in Kinnelon at the time of the alleged incident.
