Beloved Barber Dies From Injuries From Apparent Attack
Frank Halat died Tuesday from injuries sustained in an alleged assault.
Bloomingdale police said Frank Halat, the 79-year-old owner of Frank's Barber Shop, died Tuesday as a result of injuries he sustained in an alleged assault Friday. Police Chief Joseph Borell said he had received information around 1:30 p.m. of Halat's passing.
On Friday morning, police responded to a call from the barber shop where a , of Pompton Lakes, facedown and unconscious with life-threatening injuries to his face and head. Halat was transported to the hospital, where he was listed in critical condition for the past several days.
Borell said Halat's death will not affect the department's investigation, but that it could change the outcome of the case if criminal action is determined to be the cause of Halat's injuries.

"It would change the case," he said. "In the event we do find there is criminal action, it would be considered a homicide."
At this point, however, Borell said there have been no breaks in the case and no new information.

"On a personal level of the police department and how we're conducting the investigation, it hasnt changed anything in regards to how we are going to handle the investigation," he said.
The incident has . On Sunday and Monday, the police department to hand out flyers and ask motorists if they had any information regarding the incident.
