Butler Police: Man Had Fresh Needle Marks on Arm

Franklin man arrested for alleged possession of a hypodermic needle.

A Franklin man was arrested inTuesday after police said they observed fresh needle marks on his arm and allegedly found a hypodermic needle in his possession.

According to , Ptl. Jarred Schmiedhauser observed a 1996 Chevy pull into several parking lots on Route 23 “in an erratic manner” at about 2:30 p.m., according to a statement released Wednesday from the police department.

Police said Ptl. Schmiedhauser pulled over the vehicle and spoke with the driver, Mark A. Alnemny, 21. At that point, police said they allegedly observed fresh needle marks on Alnemy’s arm when he was asked to present his driving credentials. Upon further investigation, police said they allegedly discovered a hypodermic syringe in the vehicle, as well as several empty heroin packets.

Police said there was a passenger in the vehicle, Douglas M. Slate, 35, of Sussex, who was discovered to have an outstanding warrant out for his arrest from Paterson for $2,000.

Alnemy and Slate were both arrested and transported to the Butler police station. Alnemy was charged with improper maintenance of lamps, operating with an obstruction of view, unlawful possession of a hypodermic syringe and possession of drug paraphernalia. He was released to his own recognizance and issued a ticket to appear in court at a later date.

Police said Slate was unable to post bail and was turned over to the Paterson Police Department.

Sgt. Scott River, Ptl. Michael Zenz and Ptl. Victor Scott assisted in the arrests.

In other arrests, Joseph Stoner, 25, of Butler, was arrested on Tuesday on a bench warrant.

According to police, at about 10 p.m., Sgt. Keith Soules and Ptl. George Beyloune went to Stoner’s residence on Kiel Avenue to serve him several outstanding warrants. Police said he was placed under arrest at that time as per the bench warrants, which originated out of Teaneck Municipal Court, for $750 and Municipal Court for $400. Stoner was transported to the Butler police station, where police said he posted bail. He was released with a ticket to appear in court at a later date.
