Maria Lane Home Severely Damaged in Fire

Kinnelon residence deemed not inhabitable following blaze.

A Kinnelon home on Maria Lane has been deemed not inhabitable after sustaining severe fire, smoke and water damage in a blaze that broke out Tuesday night.

and the . responded to a house fire on Maria Lane at 7:23 p.m. According to police, patrol officers noticed heavy smoke coming from the attic of a residence when they arrived at the scene.

Police said a male occupant was the only member of his family who was home at the time. The man called 9-1-1 after smelling smoke and apparently hearing popping noises coming from the attic.

In addition to the Kinnelon Volunteer Fire Co., the , , Boonton and Riverdale fire departments assisted with extinguishing the blaze.

Police said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, but that Boonton Avenue, between Cutlass Road and Colonial Lane, was closed for about two hours during the incident. Police also said the house sustained severe fire, smoke and water damage and is currently not inhabitable.
