The police department went to work Sunday and Monday, and handing out fliers to motorists asking for any information regarding the apparent assault of Halat, from Pompton Lakes. The department also put up an electric sign which continues to sit on Main Street asking anyone who witnessed anything to contact them.
Police are continuing to ask anyone with information to contact the department at 973-838-0158.
Borell said Thursday that the department has no persons of interest being investigated at this time and that the only people who have been interviewed in the past week regarding the case are residents or people coming forward with information.
"We had interviewed two individuals the day of the incident," Borell said. "They were released shortly after. We didn't have anything to detain them, we just brought them in and spoke to them based on our initial investigation of them being in the area."
Borell said it was determined that the individuals were not involved in the apparent crime.
While Borell could release few details Thursday on the case, he said the department has been working to determine whether items, such as cash, had been removed from the store.
"There were no signs of a struggle with Frank, and it's a matter of making a determination of what was on his person," he said. "He did have a register and it appeared undisturbed, but it's hard to say with certainty." Not knowing how much money was in the register to begin with, Borell said it is hard to tell if money was removed.
The department has also been working on obtaining and viewing surveillance videos from nearby businesses on Main Street, but Borell said Frank's Barber Shop did not have its own surveillance system and that there are no videos that show the front of the business.
An autopsy was conducted by the Northern Regional Medical Examiner's Office Wednesday, Borell said, but results were not immediately available.
