Girls Lax Runs Past Montville

Speed and teamwork carry the Colts in a 12-8 victory over county rival.

After stumbling out of the gate, the Colts turned an early deficit into a 12-8 victory over the Montville High School Mustangs, outscoring Montville 9 to 5 in the second half.

Despite a quick goal, Kinnelon (3-2) fell behind 3-1 to the Mustangs (4-2) in the first half before finding their footing and tieing the game 3-3 at the half. The Colts improved their passing and used supirior speed to beat an overwhelmed Montville defense in the second half, capitalizing on turnovers and minimizing mistakes.

Heidi Annaheim—The sophomore had a strong game on offense, scoring the team's first goal in the first half and three more late in the second half, finishing with 5 total goals on the day.

OTHER KEY PERFORMANCES

Sophomore Virginia Annaheim (Kinnelon) was the other high scorer for the Colts, finishing the game with three.  Despite picking up a yellow card late in the second, junior Melissa Landspurg (Kinnelon) finished with two goals and one assist. Kara Crampton (Kinnelon) served as the creator for Kinnelon, logging a team-high four assists on the day. Shelby Labe (Montville) lead the Mustangs with five goals on the day.
