Kinnelon Boys Lacrosse: Team Hopes to Build on Last Season's Success

The Kinnelon boys lacrosse team is looking forward to getting on the field consistently.

The weather is starting to warm up, and that means spring sports are about to start for varsity squads. The Kinnelon boys lacrosse team is gearing up for a successful spring season.

Overview

After taking home a Morris County Championship in 2010, the Kinnelon boys lacrosse team comes into the 2011 season with a new look. After graduating 15 seniors –including 12 key contributors- head coach Kevin Kelly is counting on a number of underclassmen to step up and make an impact. While Kelly and his squad may lack experience in some spots on the field, expectations around the locker room are high as ever as the Colts prepare for a repeat performance this year.

Keep your eye on

  • Christopher Bauer, Midfield (Sr.)—The Colts’ captain this season, Bauer is a key cog in the Kinnelon offensive attack in 2011.
  • Orrin Main, Defense (Sr.)- Kelly expects his senior captain to command a new-look Colts backline in 2011.

They'll miss

  • Mike Crampton, Attack- A three-year starter, Crampton was the Colts' leading goal-scorer in 2010, tallying 67 on the season.
  • Parker Waldron, Midfielder- A do-it-all middie, Waldron played offense, defense and was dominant on faceoffs for Kinnelon in 2010.
  • Matt Diaco, Goalie- Diaco was the Colts backstop last season. His experience and ability to command the defense will be missed.

Coach's Take

“We’re definitely inexperienced, but I figure as the season goes on, we’re going to get better. This preseason has been a struggle, just because of the lack of facilities to prepare because of the weather. The gym and parking lot don’t emulate game speed, physical play and spacing. The quicker we can get on that field consistently, the quicker we’re going to improve.”—Coach Kelly

They Said It

"I think we’re really young and talented. We don’t have a lot of experience, but we’re really athletic and as the season goes on I think we’ll get more experience and really put it all together.” —Christopher Bauer

"We’ve got a lot of potential and we work hard. We just have to get our fundamentals down and learn the game a little more, then we’ll start playing at a higher level. I think we’re capable of being Morris County champs again, and hopefully making a run in states.” -Orrin Main
