Kinnelon Defeats Butler in Annual High School Sports Competition

Kinnelon will be home to the Focus Cup trophy this year.

defeated neighboring in this year's friendly competition. The win represents a cumulative score higher than that of Butler in all regular season varsity sports games against Butler High School.

The Focus Cup is a competition that was created by Kinnelon High School physical education teacher and Butler native James Soules.

"A lot of the push behind the Focus Cup stems from the fact that I grew up in Butler, and for the last 15 years, I have worked at Kinnelon, building many relationships with both students and faculty members," said Soules. "I feel a strong allegiance to both school districts. So, as the owner of , I wanted to come up with a way to fuse the two schools together in a form of healthy competition, and the Focus Cup was born."

During the regular season, each time Kinnelon and Butler faced each other in a sport, the winning team was awarded two points. This year's final score showed Kinnelon winning 32-8.

The winning team received $500 for their school's varsity club, a meal at the and championship t-shirts. Sixty three athletes and coaches attended the luncheon on Monday.
