UPDATE: Lightning Strike Caused Fire in South Glen Road Home
Police and fire officials were on the scene where smoke appeared to be coming from a Kinnelon home.
Lightning struck a tree near a home at 58 South Glen Road, burning through a sprinkler line and causing a basement closet to catch on fire Wednesday, police said.
received a call around 4:14 p.m. about a fire in the basement of the home. Police said a teenager had placed the call and said he had heard what he thought may have been a lightning strike in the yard outside, as well as smelled smoke.
The teenager told police that when he checked the basement, he saw a light coming from the closet which turned out to be fire when he opened the door, police said.

Sgt. Crouthamel and Ptl. Cifelli and Mucci arrived on the scene to see heavy smoke in the house. Police said they also saw a tree in the yard with burn marks around the base and a burn line in the yard from the tree to a sprinkler box that was located in the closet that appeared to be on fire.
By 5:23 p.m., the fire was extinguished and traffic was allowed to pass the home on the street.

, , the and Boonton Township Fire Department responded to the scene, as well as Tri-boro First Aid Squad. Police said no one was injured in the fire, but that the home suffered smoke damage.
