Police Still Seek Clues in Barber's Death

Police department has conducted about 200 interviews over last two months with no arrests.

Two months to the day of when , a Bloomingdale Main Street barber, was of his shop before later from an apparent beating, police said they have no new information on the case but will not stop until they do.

"We're frustrated, to say the least," Bloomingdale Police Chief Joe Borell said Wednesday.

Approximately 200 people have been interviewed in the case since April 1, when the crime was first reported around 11 a.m., Borell said. Halat died of his injuries at Morristown Memorial Hospital on April 5.

The for information leading to an arrest and conviction in the case, a collection of money from local business owners, family and friends of Halat, is now about $10,000 according to Borell. But it has not appeared to entice those with information on the apparent crime to come forward.

"The reward has not netted anything that has amounted to progress," Borell said Tuesday.

Speaking about the case, Borell became frustrated and said the department is frustrated at the resources it has exhausted in trying to uncover information. Police, along with the Passaic County Prosecutor's Office, which is conducting a joint investigation with the borough police department, attempted to gather any information from surveillance videos of nearby businesses on the street, but Borell said "we've exhaused all video" and it did not provide any further information.

Still, Borell said the police department is continuing to work hard to solve the case.

"I just hope that someday, we can have something positive to report," he said. "And we won't rest until we do."
