February 21,1861: President-elect Abraham Lincoln arrived in New Jersey on his way to Washington. Lincoln spoke a few words at brief stops in Jersey City, Newark, Elizabeth, Rahway, New Brunswick and Princeton Junction, where a group of students from the College of New Jersey (today's Princeton) serenaded him. He moved on to Trenton, arriving there at noon and delivering short speeches to the State Senate and Assembly, and then left by train for Philadelphia at 2:30.
