GSQMRC Holds Annual Garden State Classic Season Opener

The Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club held its Annual Garden State Classic opener on April 6 and 7, 2013.

The Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club held its Annual Garden State Classic race weekend on Saturday, April 6 and Sunday, April 7.  Blue skies and a good breeze greeted the drivers and their handlers when racing opened Saturday morning at 10 AM.  First up for the day would be qualifying for 11 divisions on the weekend:  Junior Novice, Senior Novice, Junior Animal, Senior Animal, Junior Honda, Senior Honda, Heavy Honda, Junior Stocks, LIght 160, Heavy 160, Light World Formula and Heavy World Formula.

When qualifying was completed, lower mains began for several divisions.  Drivers were looking to transfer to the A-mains for Sunday races.  The novice classes were completed on Saturday with Ryan Stangle taking his first A-main win in Junior Novice and Chris Silvestri taking the Senior Novice checkers.

Sunday dawned bright with less breeze and warmer temperatures.  A-mains started at 10:30 with the Junior Animal division and moved through the remainder of the classes.  Cole Stangle would take the first event of the day and later would win the Junior Stock class as well.  Kiel Cochran took his lone win of the day by inches over Aaron Bollinger in the Senior Animal division.  Chase Stangle, brother of Cole and cousin of Ryan, took the checkered flag on the last lap of the Junior Honda A-main, beating Cole to the line for the win.  Taking two wins on the day would be Brandon Grosso in both the Heavy Honda and Heavy 160 divisions.  The other heavy division was won by Louie Keraitis in his world formula.  Birthday presents in the form of wins came for two drivers in the Classic.  GSQMRC's own Anthony Payne took the win in the Senior Honda A-main with outsider Aaron Bollinger taking two wins for his birthday in the Light 160 and Light World Formula classes.
