GSQMRC holds Trophy Races for Senior and Heavy Honda Divisions

The Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club held their Senior and Heavy Honda Trophy Races on Sunday, June 26. Seventy-one cars saw the green flag as racing continued at Lil' Wall.

The perfect summer Sunday at the Shore was the backdrop for racing at Lil’ Wall for the Garden State Quarter Midget Racing Club on June 26, 2011.  The skies were just a bit overcast through the morning but the sun was shining brightly as the A-mains took to the 1/20th of a mile track in the mid-afternoon.

Trophy races were in order for both the Senior and Heavy Honda divisions for the day.  Brandon Grosso would set fast time for the Senior division, giving him the 5th starting position when the top 5 times were inverted to start the feature race.  Young Kyle Mulholland would race his way to the A-main by winning the D-main and then staying in the top 5 for each of the C and B-mains in some hard fought battles.  Grosso would move up to win the A-main; his first of three wins on the day, the others coming in the Light 160 and World Formula divisions.

Louie Keraitis set fast time in the Heavy Honda Division.   Travis Schwarz led the race to the green flag and Keraitis moved to the lead within the first 5 laps.  Keraitis seemed to have the win wrapped up when, with 7 laps to go, a spin at the back of the field bunched the cars on the re-start.  Ryan Gerber would make a move to pass the leader and go on to take the checkered flag.
