Just Slow Down Drive 25 or 30 on West Chicago Blvd.

As of March 15, 2012 the new speed limit signs are up on West Chicago Blvd lowering the speed limit from 35 to 30 mph. Hopefully drivers will notice the change and get used to slowing down on the stretch from Old Mill Road to Eighth Avenue. The Wall PD, after conducting a number of road studies and evaluations of the changing profile of the neighborhood, recommended the change in early 2010. Their recommendation was approved by the Twp Committee in late 2011. Although lowering the speed limit to 25 mph would likely have been preferred by some local residents, take what you can get is good advice here. So Just Slow Down and Drive 25 or no faster than 30 on West Chicago Blvd!

So what if you think that a speed limit should be lowered on a street where you live? What should you do? First be patient. Second bring the situation to the attention of the Wall PD. Collect specific information on the nature of the problems, the frequency and the time of year when the problems are most severe. Third be patient since the PD has limited resources to address these situations. Fourth call the PD periodically and check on the situation and for sure let the Twp Committee know about the problem. Fifth, be patient and ask for some updates. Hopefully the PD's technical studies/analyses will confirm your concerns and the process can lead to a recommendation for a Twp Ordinance implementing the speed limit reduction or other changes needed to improve the safety of your streets.

Effectuating change takes the cooperation of both the PD and the Twp. Thanks to those residents of the West Chicago area that may have signalled the need for the reduction in the speed limit.
