QMA Region 2 Asphalt States Races held at Lil' Wall Stadium

Traditions abound for Memorial Day weekend - fast and furious car races are among them.  The Garden State Quarter Midget Race Club played host to 164 quarter midget cars driven by racers ages 5 to 17 to carry on that theme.

Timing for qualifying commenced mid-morning on Saturday.  With the sun glaring down, the track was hot and fast with 7 track records being broken or made on the day:  Shane Emmons for Junior Animal, Joshua Patterson in Senior Animal, Brian Osborn in Heavy Honda, DJ Hunt for the Mods, Jack Wehmeyer for Junior Stock, Dylan McCrone in B and Shawna Winters in the Heavy World Formula class.

Rain caused a short delay in the opening of the upper mains on Sunday as club members woke early to dry the track to prepare for a day full of racing.  A-mains began after a group picture of the drivers and the National Anthem.  Junior Honda was won by Shane Emmons as DJ Hunt (second) and Brandon Shipley (third) finished with their cars three wide across the line.  Two races later, Brandon Grosso would best Zack Haspel at the line by inches in the Heavy Honda A-main. 

Three drivers would take home two first place trophies each for the weekend:  Jimmy Potts in Senior Honda and Light World Formula, Shawna Winters in the B class and Heavy World Formula and DJ Hunt for Junior Animal and Junior Stock.
