February 18, 1777: General George Washington, in the process of rebuilding his army at Morristown, wrote to General “Scotch Willie” Maxwell, who was rebuilding the New Jersey Brigade and ramping up the “forage war” against the British in eastern New Jersey, “I wish the Morris County Militia [whose term of service was up] could be prevailed on to stay some time longer…”
