The Anatomy Of Intermediate School Survey

Four questions for parents, one for residents, but silence from the administration

The asking parents and residents about the Wall School district’s plans to and bump music teaching off the regular schedule is broken up into two segments.

A section for residents whose children would not be directly affected by the proposal,, asks only for input on the district’s proposal for the 2012-13 school year. It is open to the public.

Another section is for parents of students in the school system. It is password protected. That survey, obtained by Wall Patch and a copy of which is attached to this story, asks four questions of the responders.

Three questions deal with enrollment in the Intermediate School’s music programs, which include band, orchestra and chorus. The last question concerns the district’s plans to move music instruction from the regular school day to a proposed before- or after-school session, asking parents which of the two options they would prefer. That question also has a section where parents can make their own suggestions about how music instruction should be accommodated.

– also obtained by Wall Patch and posted to this story for comparison - had only three questions, two of which dealt with music enrollment. The third question asked which of the before- or after-school options parents would prefer. There was no third option.

Some who have taken the new survey told Wall Patch that the options in the last question are not mutually exclusive and that each option can be selected, possibly obfuscating the results that the district receives.

It was unclear Thursday morning how many survey results the district has received, or how the results will factor into any decision the district may have.

It was also unclear Thursday how long the survey will remain on the district’s website or because Interim schools Superintendent Stephanie Bilenker —  – has not responded to a request for comment left Wednesday.
