Vehicle Hits Wall Home After Crash, Michigan Teen Ticketed: Police

The teen failed to yield to the other vehicle, police said.

WALL, NJ -- A Michigan teenager received a motor vehicle summons in the wake of a two-vehicle crash that ended up causing one vehicle to hit a house on Belmar Boulevard on Saturday, Wall police said Wednesday.

Kelpela Perez, 16, of Michigan, was issued a motor vehicle summons for failing to stop or yield right of way before entering an intersection after the collision at Monmouth Boulevard and Belmar Boulevard, Lt. Greg Carpino said.

Michigan's graduated driver's license law allows teenagers to receive a driver's license at age 16, and while it includes some of the restrictions placed on New Jersey teens, Michigan teens do not appear to be prevented from driving out of state.

Perez was southbound on Monmouth Boulevard in a 2014 Dodge four-door vehicle when the Dodge entered the intersection at Belmar Boulevard and failed to yield to a 2014 Chevrolet Silverado driven by a 26-year-old Laurence Harbor man, Carpino said.

The two vehicles collided, and the Silverado left the road, struck a house and the gas meter located at 2900 Belmar Blvd. then came to rest in the front yard of 2902 Belmar Blvd., he said.

There were no injuries reported, Carpino said.

New Jersey Natural Gas responded to repair the gas meter and the Glendola Fire Department responded and assisted. The structure of the residence was determined to be safe, Carpino said.
