Walk-A-Thon A Success
Annual Central School charity event raises money to battle a disease affecting one of their own
Students, faculty and staff at Central School on Wednesday stepped off on an $11,000 Walk-A-Thon to battle juvenile diabetes.
The annual charity event this year has raised the money for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, a nonprofit dedicated to fighting Type 1 diabetes, according to event organizeer Doreen Brown.
Juvenile, or Type 1, Diabetes is a chronic disease which prevents the pancreas from producting insulin. There are more than 1 million affected by Juvenile Diabetes, including third grade Central school student Jake Walsh.

Students collected sponsors for weeks and walked the school grounds in either a 2- or 4-lap course, according to grade level.
Donations also can be made to the foundation through its website at www.jdrf.org/kidswalk.
