NEW PROVIDENCE, NJ -After falling to Basking Ridge in the County Tournament, the Watchung Hills Warriors rolled past the New Providence Pioneers,12-2, on Monday, May 12.
Alec Orazietti finished the game with three goals and four assists, including his 100th point as a Warrior.
“It feels amazing. I’m blessed to have such a great team behind me every single game,” said Orazietti on the win. “We saw their defense played zone and practiced all week to prepare and we just executed today.”

Ryan Cunningham and John Tekin added three goals and an assist in the team win, while Frank Rica and Zack Melillo each added a goal.
Chad Simons transitioned from goalie to offense in today’s victory, scoring the first Varsity goal in his career.

“It feels good to score the first goal in my Varsity career. Making the switch from goalie to attack in a short amount of time was challenging but I adapted to the position and Zack Grosch gave me a pass to set me up for the goal,” Simons said.
Ironically, Simons’ goal came off of Grosch’s pass, which came in his first Varisty game and assist of his career.
The defense played strong the whole game, as goalie Jack Ayre held the Pioneers to just two goals.
“The team’s tempo picked up as soon as the defense transitioned the ball better to the offense. Overall the defense made smart plays and gobbled up any ground balls which ultimately solidified the game after the first half,” said Ayre on the win.
Captain and defenseman Matt Rozmerski also commented on the defense’s dominant performance, adding, “We shut them out, played as a unit and cleared the ball very well.”
The Warriors will play Old Bridge at home on Thursday before they open up the State Tournament against Montgomery on Saturday.
