Report Examines County's Energy-Saving Efforts

Energy council releases first study of impacts of projects.

The Somerset County Energy Council recently completed its first Energy Smart Somerset Progress Report, which takes a point-in-time look at the status of renewable-energy projects, energy-efficiency programs and other efforts currently under way to make Somerset County a more energy-efficient and sustainable place to live and work.

The report, produced with the support of the Somerset County Planning Division, includes information on public- and private-sector participation in various county, state and national energy-efficiency and renewable-energy incentive programs.

The goals of this report are to highlight the significant programs available to both the private and public sectors for implementing energy-efficiency, conservation and renewable-energy initiatives; to benchmark results achieved through these programs to date; and to recognize and applaud the county’s municipalities, schools and businesses for their efforts to save energy and provide new, clean sources of renewable energy.

“The report is a very comprehensive and effective summary of our progress in achieving sustainability and remaining New Jersey’s greenest county,” said Freeholder Jack M. Ciattarelli, energy council liaison.   “The report is also another perfect example of the benefit derived from having a formal county Energy Council comprised of expert citizens.”

A copy of the report can be viewed on the Energy Council‘s website at www.energysmartsomerset.org/council/index.htm
