Three Warriors Claim County Wrestling Titles
Wins by Michael Magaldo, Michael Devito and Chris Gardner propel team to third place finish.
Watchung Hills Regional High School wrestlers Michael Magaldo, Michael Devito and Chris Gardner won county championships Saturday at Hillsborough High School, boosting the Warriors to a third-place finish with 141 total points.
Franklin won the tournament's team title with 189.5 points, followed by Hillsborough with 158.5. Somerville (130.5) and Bound Brook (127) finished fourth and fifth, respectively.
Magaldo, wrestling at 112 pounds, pinned Bound Brook’s Robert Murray to claim the title. Wrestling at 140 pounds, Devito won a 4-2 overtime decision over Emmanuel Soto, of Manville, in his first bout in the event.

And Chris Gardner, at 152 pounds, won a 7-0 decision over Montgomery’s John Moyle.
Other Watchung Hills wrestlers placing in the event include a third-place finish for Alex Polerra (at 103), and fourth-place finishes for Matt Copolla (125), Alex Fornelos (189), and Dom Urso (285).
