Get Rid Of Your Prescription Medication Safely in Green Brook

Green Brook, NJ -- The Green Brook Police Department announces participation in this month’s “Operation Take Back New Jersey” prescription medication disposal program.

This program, orchestrated through the Drug Enforcement Administration, provides a convenient and safe means for residents to dispose of unused, unwanted and/or expired prescription medications.

The Green Brook Police Department will be hosting a collection site in the lobby of police headquarters, 109 Greenbrook Road, Green Brook on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.

During that time residents are encouraged to bring their unused, unwanted and/or expired prescription medications for disposal. The following is the criteria for participating in this program:

• This program is anonymous and no questions or requests for identification will be made of persons
• Medication may be disposed of either in its original container or by removing the medication from disposing of medication from the container and depositing it directly into the drug disposal box. If the original container is submitted, it is encouraged that the prescription label be removed if it contains any personal identifying information.
• Liquid products, such as cough medicine, should remain sealed in their original container. The depositor should ensure that the cap is tightly sealed to prevent leakage.
• Syringes and other sharp instruments will not be accepted.

"This program is a great opportunity for residents to dispose of their unwanted prescription medications in a safe manner," stated Green Brook Police Chief G. Christopher Kurz. "Abuse of such medications is a growing problem, and many people are not aware of how to safely dispose of them. Through this program, we are able to assist people with disposing of unwanted medications that may otherwise end up in the wrong hands leading to an accidental poisoning or overdose."
