List Of Road Closures, Power Outages Across Somerset County

Major highways, local roads all over Somerset County are closed. Power outages grow and river flood waters rise.

SOMERSET COUNTY, NJ — Trees, power lines and poles are dropping all over Somerset County due to the a nor'easter blanketing the area with rain and snow on Friday.

In Green Brook, avoid Us Hwy No 22 and Washington Ave due to the traffic light completely out, as of 8:30 p.m.

As of 6:06 p.m., there's a downed tree on I-287 northbound area of North of Exit 14 for US 22 in Bridgewater Twp. Ramp closed 5 to 10 minute delay, according to nj511.org.

As of 5:43 p.m., there's a downed tree on US 206 in both directions area of CR 512/Pottersville Rd in Peapack-Gladstone. All lanes closed, according to nj511.org.

As of 4:54 p.m., there's a downed tree on US 202 in both directions North of CR 512/Sunnybranch Rd in Bernardsville. All lanes closed and detoured, according to nj511.org.

As of 6:02 p.m., there's a downed pole on US 22 westbound West of CR 639/North Bridge St in Bridgewater Twp. All lanes closed and detoured, according to nj511.org.

As of 5:56 p.m., there's a disabled vehicle on US 22 westbound area of I-287 in Bridgewater Twp. Left lane closed, according to nj511.org.

Two Bridges on Old York Road between Bridgewater and Branchburg closed due to high water as of 5:29 p.m.

In Bridgewater, Route 22 West in the area of North Bridge Street is closed until further notice. Avoid the area, police announced at 5:19 p.m.

In Warren, avoid Hunter's Trail at Morning Glory due to a large tree and power lines down across the roadway, police reported at 5:10 p.m.

Old York Road between Bridgewater and Branchburg is closed due to high water until further notice, the county announced around 5 p.m.

In Bound Brook, a large tree down across the north and south sections of Watchung Road south of Piedmont Drive. DPW is responding to clear the roadway, police reported as of 4 p.m.

Blackwells Mills Causeway between Franklin and Hillsborough is closed due to flooding as of 4 p.m.

West End Avenue by Willow in North Plainfield has been closed due to a tree down on wires, Somerset County announced as of 4 p.m.

In Green Brook, police are asking drivers to avoid Interhaven Avenue until further notice due to downed power lines. Some roads nearby are also closed in the area, police announced around 1:35 p.m.

Rock Road West is also closed in Green Brook between fairway Drive and Warrenville Road due to traffic hazard, police report around 3:40 p.m.

In Hillsborough, East Mountain Road is closed between Mountainview Road and Rte. 601 in Montgomery, police announced at 3:04 p.m.

Montgomery Police report Dutchtown Zion Road is closed between CR 601 and Pin Oak Road, as of 1:37 p.m. due to downed trees, poles and wire.

The Griggstown Causeway in Montgomery also closed due to flooding Friday morning.

East Mountain Road in Montgomery is also closed between CR 601 and Mountain View Road due to a downed tree, police announced around 1:50 p.m.

Bedens Brook Road in Montgomery is closed between Cascade Court and Country Club Drive due to a downed utility pole and wires, police announced at 2:45 p.m.

In Bernardsville, a large tree has fallen down blocking the roadway on Douglass Avenue in Bernardsville, police announced Friday afternoon. All drivers are advised to use Mount Harmony Road until further notice.

In Branchburg, South Branch Road is closed between Hillcrest Drive and Case Road due to downed wires until further notice, police announced around 1:55 p.m.

Power Outages:

More than 6,000 Somerset County residents are without power as a nor'easter passes through Friday as of 5:30 p.m.

PSE&G reports 3,091 customers are without power as of 5:30 p.m., that is up from 628 earlier in the day.
A breakdown of outages are:

  • 2,050 in Montgomery,
  • 313 in Franklin,
  • 287 in Bridgewter,
  • 155 in Warren
  • 121 in North Plainfield,
  • 55 in Green Brook,
  • 32 in Rocky Hill,
  • 25 in Bound Brook,
  • 20 in Hillsborough,
  • 17 in Watchung,
  • 10 in South Bound Brook,
  • Fewer than five in Manville, Millstone, Raritan and Somerville.

JCP&L is reporting 3,392 customers without power as of 5:30 p.m. up from 1,799 customers without power as of 3:30 p.m.

A breakdown of outages are:

  • 1,562 in Basking Ridge,
  • 1,269 in Bernardsville,
  • 275 in Bedminster,
  • 111 in Warren
  • 101 in Far Hills,
  • 38 in Hillsborough
  • 17 in Peapack and Gladstone,
  • 15 in Branchburg,
  • Fewer than five in Bridgewater.

River Flooding:

Lcal rivers, including the Millstone, Raritan, North Branch Raritan and Passaic, are also rising slowly, but steadily. The Millstone is projected to flood by Saturday. (See Related: Millstone River Is Forecast To Flood)

Winter Storm Riley has caused local flooding and more than 400 cancelled flights at LaGuardia, almost 250 at JFK and 260 at Newark Liberty International Airport, according to the Port Authority of NY/NJ.
