Watchung Police Remind Residents To Lock Car Doors

With a rise in car thefts and burglaries in the area, Watchung Police are reminding resident to lock their car doors and remove the keys.

WATCHUNG, NJ — With the rise in car thefts and burglaries in surrounding neighborhoods, the Watchung Police Department is reminding residents to be alert.

"Residents are being reminded to keep their vehicles locked and remove keys when not in use," police posted in a Nixle alert sent out Friday morning.

Car burglaries have been reported in surrounding towns such as Clark.

Watchung Police Officer Brian Townley noted that there have not been any car burglaries reported in town, but the Nixle message was simply sent out to put residents on alert to avoid becoming a target.
