'Cops' To Film In N.J. For 10 Weeks

The reality TV show will reportedly highlight the work of the Paterson Police Department.

The next time you get pulled over in North Jersey, you could be on television.

“Cops,” the television show that follows police officers in various locations throughout the United States, is reportedly working on coming to Paterson to film.

Paterson Police Director Jerry Speziale told NJ.com that the show would highlight various aspects of the department’s policing practices and not just average arrests.

According to the report, the show would film in Paterson for 10 weeks starting in late July.

Pam Golum, a spokeswoman for Langley Productions, the show’s production company, said that the company was working on coming to Paterson to film but that nothing was set in stone in terms of exactly when filming would occur.

Speziale could not be reached for comment via phone and email. He told NJ.com that the agreement with Langley includes a $1 million insurance clause.

“Cops” bills itself as the only truly unscripted reality show and airs on the Spike network. It has been on the air for 27 years and filmed in 140 cities.

The show previously filmed in Paterson when it followed Passaic County Sheriff’s officers when Speziale was sheriff. That led to one of the series' more memorable scenes when an officer repeatedly told a suspected drug user, “I ain’t your papi.”
