Fundraiser Started For Wayne Fire Victims

WAYNE, NJ — A online fundraiser has been launched to help a township family whose home was destroyed by a fire Friday.

The Shakkour family lived at the MacDonald Drive house for more 30 years before a Friday destroyed it.

"The Shakkour family are one of the most giving people I have ever met in my entire life. They would give the shirt off of their backs to anyone in need," said Chal Bells on the Gofundme donation page created for the family.

Tony Shakkour and daughter Giselle were not hurt in the blaze. Firefighters from all five township fire companies responded to the blaze.

More than $4,200 was donated to the campaign as of early Monday afternoon.

Wayne Fire Commission John Wozinak told NorthJersey.com Friday that explosions could be heard when the fire broke out.

The fire appears to have started in the back of the house on a deck and spread to the house, Wozinak said. An exact cause has not yet been determined. Firefighters battled the blaze for more than two hours.
