Heat Will Shorten First Day Of School In Wayne Township

Students come back to class Wednesday, but the day will be shorter due to excessive heat in the forecast.

WAYNE, NJ —Wayne Township students will have a shortened schedule Wednesday for their first day of class in this new school year, because of high temperatures forecast in the region.

There is a heat advisory in Wayne Township through Wednesday at 8 p.m., and temperatures could reach a high of 94 degrees. The combination of heat and humidity could make it feel even hotter. These sweltering temperatures are a result of a hot and humid air mass over the region, according to the National Weather Service.

District officials said all schools will follow a "minimal day" on Wednesday, Sept. 6.
