Letter: Everyone Wins When Politicians Work Together

'This year I hope all Wayne voters will vote on the issues and the character of each candidate rather than solely on party affiliation.'

To the editor:

This past primary season the citizens of Wayne were exposed to some of the inner workings of the Republican Party.

Ballot Line Battle

Republicans will tell you that they vote on the merit of each candidate and not the party. But their actions in last spring’s runoff election tell a different story. Both mayoral candidates vied to be on the traditional Republican Line A to be assured of getting the most votes. It may have appeared to be silly season, but candidates know many voters vote a straight party line.

Verbal Assault by Councilman

We were all shocked at seeing 1st Ward Councilman Richard Jasterzbski lewd verbal assault on an election official. Had the encounter not been recorded by the daughter of the person who was so rudely spoken to, I doubt that anything would have been done to censure him. He was asked to resign and he refused. This is the same councilman who slandered the League of Women Voters and is threatening to sue Town Council members for slander for publicly voting and discussing his crass language case in public. Is this who can make a difference for our community?

Look Beyond the Usual Candidates

This year I hope all Wayne voters will vote on the issues and the character of each candidate rather than solely on party affiliation. Wayne Township residents win when our government has members of both parties working together, finding a consensus of ideas, not the one-party system we have now. The Wayne Democrats Party is offering a slate of well-qualified candidates who are ready to work to make our town an even better place to live and work.
