WOODLAND PARK, NJ — A Passaic County man tried robbing two U.S. Postal Service mail carriers in two different towns last month, federal authorities announced Wednesday. Yeniser Cruz Perez appeared to take out a gun and demanded mail keys from both workers, according to his indictment.

Cruz Perez, of Paterson, attempted a robbery Jan. 20 in Wyckoff and then later that day in Woodland Park, according to U.S. Attorney Philip R. Sellinger. The 20-year-old left both mail carriers after learning they didn't have arrow keys, which are used to access mail, authorities said.

The man was charged by indictment with two counts of assault and attempted robbery of persons having control over mail matter and government property. He will be arraigned on a date to be determined.
