Preschool, Retail Building Might Be Built On Wayne's Hamburg Tpk.
The development would have a daycare facility, restaurant, and several retailers.
WAYNE, NJ — A multi-use application to construct two restaurants, a supermarket, daycare business, and retail building is on the agenda for the Planning Board meeting Monday night.
If approved, the plan would develop the 7-acre property and remove 86 trees from 910 Hamburg Turnpike, which is located on the westbound side of the road in between the Hibachi Grill and the former Wayne Hills Mall.
The 5,000-square-foot restaurant would have a drive-thru lane and be located near the front of the property, near Hamburg Turnpike.

A 30,000-square-foot retail building would have five areas divided up between them, including 13,500 square feet for a supermarket. The remaining spaces would be between 6,800 and 2,200 square feet in area. One of those spaces would be a restaurant.
The preschool and daycare would be located in the back of the lot on the right side of the property.

The development would have two entrances. One would be at the intersection with Leonard Terrace, where a traffic light would be installed. The other would be at the left-hand side of the property.
The property borders some single-family homes on the west and south sides and Barbour Pond to the north. A sidewalk would go the length of the property and a crosswalk be put at Leonard Terrace.
Although 279 parking spaces are needed, 334 are proposed. The 86 trees that would be removed would be replaced.
The Planning Board meeting will be in the council chambers of the Wayne Municipal Complex beginning at 7:30 p.m. It will be broadcast live online on the Wayne Township website.
