Notably, it will include materials and videos from Springsteen’s 1978 performances at Passaic County’s Capitol Theatre that “crystallized his reputation as a transcendent live performer and reaffirmed his deep ties to the Garden State.”

“Passaic County holds a unique place in Bruce Springsteen’s story,” said Commissioner Director Sandi Lazzara. “This exhibition honors not only a landmark album, but the live performances and local venues that helped shape Springsteen’s legacy.”

Released in August 1975, Springsteen’s third album launched him into stardom and is considered a vital, early step into his decades-long career as a musician and performer. It gave fans songs including “Thunder Road,” “Jungleland,” and of course the album’s namesake.

“Born to Run captured the anxieties of a post-Vietnam, post-Watergate, stagflation-era America, while also offering the possibility of fulfillment through dreams, love, and resilience,” said Bruce Springsteen Center for American Music Director of Curatorial Affairs Melissa Ziobro. “In this way, the album stands as both a product of its time and a lasting reflection on the struggles and aspirations of ordinary Americans of the 1970s, and today.”

An opening reception event will be held on Feb. 26 at the Passaic County Arts Center from 6 to 9 p.m. Call 973-706-6640 to reserve your spot for the event.

The exhibition comes to Passaic County just after Springsteen announced his surprise “Land of Hopes and Dreams” 2026 tour. Read More — Bruce Springsteen’s Surprise Tour Includes NJ Concert: How To Buy Tickets
