Stolen School Bus In NJ Prompts Wayne Superintendent's Safety Message

The suspect, who stole a school bus from Livingston, was found Thursday morning in Pennsylvania, authorities said.

WAYNE, NJ — A school bus stolen in North Jersey wasn't part of Wayne's fleet. But the superintendent of Wayne Township Public Schools sent a message to parents regarding the incident.

The bus was stolen Wednesday from a Livingston public school parking lot, according to authorities, who say the suspect was arrested Thursday morning in Pennsylvania. Read more: Arrest Made In Livingston School Bus Theft After FBI Probe: Police

The incident didn't involve Wayne. "But anytime a school bus is stolen, there is a reason for concern," Superintendent Dr. Mark Toback wrote Wednesday to parents and guardians.

Toback shared some of the district's methods for keeping track of its buses and ensuring children's safety.

"All of our school buses are clearly identified as Wayne Township buses and have a route posted near the entry door," Toback said. "Each route is identified based on a picture of an animal. Please verify your child's bus, and if your children board the bus on their own, please advise them to verify their bus."
