WAYNE, NJ — A vigil for a Wayne teen battling illness will take place at 7:30 p.m. Thursday around the statue of the blessed mother at Immaculate Heart of Mary (508 Ratzer Rd.).

Rocco Sivolella's cancer has returned, causing several additional health concerns, according to his mother, Paula Corrieri. He remains in critical but stable condition.

The Wayne community has rallied around Sivolella, who was diagnosed in January with acute myeloid leukemia. The Wayne Valley High School freshman came home from the hospital last month and got to celebrate Easter and his 15th birthday. He also threw out the first pitch for Wayne Little League's opening day. Read more: Wayne Teen Battling Cancer Comes Home As Community Rallies For Rocco

Sivolella was set to return May 4 to Hassenfeld Children’s Hospital at NYU Langone in Manhattan for another round of chemotherapy and then a bone-marrow transplant.

But his family learned May 2 that his cancer returned. Corrieri rushed him to the emergency room early in the morning May 3 after he showed a fever.
