Wayne BOE Seeks Residents For School Advisory Panel

Applications open soon for a new Wayne schools panel on facilities, enrollment trends, and long-range planning.

WAYNE, NJ — The Wayne Township Board of Education has announced the Future Ready Schools Advisory Committee, a new group meant to bring residents into discussions about school facilities, enrollment trends, and long-range district planning.

Applications to serve on the committee will be available online here starting Monday.

The committee is being created to give residents a chance to review information, ask questions, and offer advisory input as the board evaluates how school buildings are being used and how continued residential growth and development may affect district schools in the future.

The board said the committee will serve in a strictly advisory role. It will review information related to school capacity, facility utilization, enrollment trends, and the impact of residential growth and development on district schools, and may provide non-binding feedback and recommendations to the Board of Education.

Board President Don Pavlak said the new committee is part of the board’s effort to involve the public in major school discussions.

“We want to continue bringing the community directly into important conversations about our schools,” Pavlak said. “The Citizen Budget Advisory Committee showed us how valuable that kind of involvement can be, and the Future Ready Schools Advisory Committee is another step in that direction.”

Pavlak added that the group is intended to help the board gather more public input as it reviews district needs. “This committee is being formed to give community members a direct voice in this process by reviewing information, asking questions, and providing advisory input to help the Board better understand district needs and opportunities,” Pavlak said.

The board said the committee will not have the authority to act on behalf of the board or administration. Its stated purpose is to support planning and discussion as the district looks ahead.

The committee will include 12 to 15 members and is expected to reflect a broad cross-section of the Wayne community, including parents of current and future students, community members, business representatives, and senior citizens.

“We believe strong planning starts with listening,” Pavlak said. “This committee will help us hear directly from the community as we look at the future needs of the district in a responsible and transparent way.”
