Wayne Man Brandished Handgun In Front Of Woman: Police
Officers say they found a 9-millimeter Glock 19 handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine.
WAYNE, NJ — A Wayne man faces several charges after brandishing a handgun in front of a woman who feared him, police said Wednesday. After finally getting into Alphonso C. Jackson's vehicle, authorities said they found a 9-millimeter Glock 19 handgun with a loaded high-capacity magazine.
Jackson, 27, was charged with unlawful possession of a handgun, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, being a certain person not to possess weapons and unlawful possession of a high-capacity magazine. Officials placed him in Passaic County Jail pending a detention hearing.
A woman told Wayne police Aug. 11 that a man she knew — identified as Jackson — brandished a handgun, authorities said. The Wayne Police Department recognized Jackson from past "serious criminal incidents" and knew he was barred from possessing weapons, according to Police Chief Jack McNiff.

Police obtained a warrant for Jackson's arrest but couldn't find him. Family members then reached the Wayne man, and he responded to police headquarters and went into custody.
Officers sought to search for the handgun in the vehicle in which Jackson arrived, but they couldn't find a key among the man's personal property. But they found a key ring, without a key, in Jackson's cell, authorities said.

It became evident that Jackson was concealing the key somewhere on his body, police said. Officer James Monaghan and Sgt. James Voight told Jackson a strip search would become necessary, so he gave the key to police.
