Wayne Police Say Recent Car Thefts Could Have Been Avoided

Police say that recent vehicle thefts were aided by the fact the car owner left the doors unlocked with the key fob inside.

WAYNE, NJ — The Wayne Police Department issued a news release on Tuesday, urging residents to remove fobs and keys from their cars and to lock doors following recent vehicle thefts.

In Wayne and other surrounding towns, police, say, vehicles stolen were high-end cars that require a fob to operate.

"Most of the vehicles stolen were left unlocked with the fob inside," the release read.

Police say residential neighborhoods have been targeted, and suspects are simply testing door handles to see if the cars are unlocked.

"The Wayne Police Department is asking residents to remove fobs and keys from vehicles and to lock the doors," read the release.
